Casual Fall Style

Casual Fall Style

Posted on October 29, 2019October 28, 2019 By Drew

Mondays are my casual days. The kids are back at school, all the weekend activities are done, and my main task is to get the grocery shopping finished and put a good dinner on the table. Tonight it was Jennifer Fisher’s chicken wings and this avocado salad. It’s my day to take it a little easy, and that usually means casual clothes. And I’ll be honest, after adding a few pieces I picked up over the summer, I really liked today’s casual fall style.

I love jeans, I’ve worn them since I was a kid, and I always feel so at home in them. However, this summer I picked up a pair of Spier & Mackay chinos (among other things you’ve probably seen), and once they were washed and altered they transformed into the perfect casual pants. They were a little stiff and boxy when I first received them, but my tailor hemmed them and took the seat in, and after a few washes the cotton softened up so much they feel like I’ve been wearing them for years. When I was researching these chinos before I bought them, this seemed to be the consensus, and all the reviews couldn’t have been more right. Don’t judge these pants until you’ve washed them.

Another piece (err pieces) I picked up this summer were these Meermin brogue boots. Like everything else I’ve experienced with Mermin, there is a decent break-in period. Fortunately, the leather has softened up, and I can now wear them all day with no discomfort. I definitely recommend Meermin for well-priced, quality, and stylish men’s shoes, but you should be aware that their shoes do require a little time to soften up.

So I put these two new items together with a few pieces of clothing that I’ve had in my wardrobe for a while, and came away with something I loved. Honestly, I liked it so much, I knew I had to write a casual fall style blog post about it. Suits and sport coats are great, but some days you just want comfort, and something like this is one easy step up from a t-shirt and jeans.

Five Times to Splurge on Your Style

Posted on June 13, 2016November 14, 2017

Last June I wrote a post on five areas of your style in which you can save money. So, I figured this June I would touch on the five times where I recommend splurging. I don’t think that price necessarily equates to quality. However, I do believe that in these five areas, when you bump your budget a bit, the return value justifies the purchase price.

The Perfect Summer Shoe

Posted on July 6, 2026July 6, 2026

Ladies and gentlemen, gather ‘round and listen to the true story of the perfect summer shoe. There are some out there who would have you believe the ideal summer shoe is some sort of fuzzy travel sneaker. But those don’t last, and, like all fads, that one will fade too….

The Pastels Are Upon Us

Posted on March 25, 2015November 13, 2017

Spring is finally here, and that means Easter brunch, Passover Seder, egg hunts, family get togethers, et cetera.  Basically, everyone comes out from the winter hibernation and welcomes the new growth.  We’re not so different from the animals, you see.  The skies are less gray, color begins to return to the world, and people want to shake off their seasonal affective disorder.  People also want to return some more color to their wardrobe, but aren’t ready for full-on sunny, beach brightness just yet.  Enter the pastels.
