Brooks Brothers Striped Cotton Sweater

Brooks Brothers Striped Cotton Sweater

Posted on December 6, 2017December 5, 2017 By Drew

Does anyone else feel like things just shifted into high gear right after Thanksgiving? I swear, things dragged from Halloween until turkey day, but now we’re cruising. We’ve already bought and set up our tree. I’m hanging the lights this week. I even think we have most of our shopping done (for the kids at least). Regardless, we’re smack dab in the middle of sweater weather, and I’ve been running around a lot popping in and out fo the car on errands and outings. I usually wear wool sweaters when it gets cold, but this cotton sweater from Brooks Brothers has been a nice change of pace.

Wool is fantastic for cold weather, but heavy cotton like this sweater, when layered, can be just as warm. I’ve been wearing this one with a dress shirt and an undershirt. Lately I’ve also been struggling with whether I’m an undershirt guy or not, but I’ll save that for another blog post. However, with this outfit, and while wearing most cotton sweaters during fall and winter, the extra warmth an undershirt provides outweighs both the bulkiness and “uncool” factor in my opinion.

I really love the buttons on this too! They add a nice contrast to the white fabric and pair well with the beautiful cobalt blue stripes. The sleeves are a bit long for me in the XL size (I take a 35 inch sleeve in my shirts), but not too long that it looks goofy. This tends to be my only complaint with Brooks Brothers tops. My chest is too big and I’m too tall for a large, but I’m too thin for an XL. They Brooks Brothers XL slim pieces fit me perfectly, but not everything receives a run in that size. Other than that, I’ll continue to shop there and find incredible pieces like this sweater.

Be sure to check out some of my other sweater inspiration here!

If you follow Tailor & Barber on Instagram or Snapchat (tailorandbarber on both), you may have caught a glimpse of my sunroom-turned-home gym. Ok, so it’s not really a home gym, rather a place with a mat where I swing my kettlebells. But my kettlebells are important. They’re a key…

How to Style the Beckett Simonon Black Valencia Wholecuts

Posted on August 20, 2019August 19, 2019

*Disclosure: Beckett Simonon provided the Valencia for this post. My opinions are my own.* There is a counterintuitive rule in menswear, which usually holds true. The less adorned something is, the more formal that piece becomes. Consider the black tuxedo, one of the most formal things a man can wear….

The Look for Less: Dev Patel’s Navy Suit at the 2017 SAG Awards

Posted on January 31, 2017October 4, 2017

My social feeds have been filled with plenty of “Best Dressed” lists from Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Most of the lists included a lot of tuxedos, which I have no problem with. But one suit stood out for me: Dev Patel’s navy Brunello Cucinelli suit.
