I’m Giving Up on Shaving Creams

Posted on September 25, 2014 By Drew

I think I’m giving up on shaving creams for good.

I will probably only use shaving soaps from here on out.  I’m not sure what it is, but I almost always have a better shave with soaps over creams.  When I say better, I mean better in almost every way: closer, smoother, better glide, less irritation, and so on.

I’m trying to figure out is if this is a normal progression.  Do most wet shavers move from creams to soaps?  Should I also expect my move from cartridge razors to DE safety razors to continue on to straight razors?

One of my goals when I started Tailor and Barber was to provide a forum for open discussion on style and grooming topics.  I want all guys to learn from each other, not just provide a lecture/article on topics I find relevant.

With this in mind, I want to open up this topic for discussion.  Shaving soaps vs. creams: is it progression or just preference?

Shave of the Day: April 8, 2015

Posted on April 8, 2015November 13, 2017

Today’s shave was bursting with herbal and grassy smells from beginning to end.  What a great spring SOTD.  The Musgo Real Shaving Cream is incredibly slick, but not the most cushioning shaving cream.  It’s very good, but it’s slickness is definitely better than it’s cushion.  So it’s best paired with…

The Monday Rise: Meditation

Posted on December 1, 2014November 9, 2017

Common perception of meditation. I believe when most people think about meditation they think about some Buddhist monk sitting outside in the cold, overlooking a mountain range for twelve hours, chanting “oom” over and over.   Fortunately, that is not the only way you can meditate.  Transcendental meditation can be a…
