The other day I was completely inspired by Luca Rubinacci’s post on instagram about dressing for the first warm and sunny day of the year. The day that immediately gets you thinking about summer. I loved the outfit he was wearing in that post, so I took a stab at it. I still think he pulled it off better, but I’m happy with how mine turned out.
I love this hopsack jacket from Suitsupply. It’s so light and wears so well in summer. I never sweat under it. The wool is a Super 130 from E. Thomas and it breathes like nothing else. Even with a shirt underneath (I hope you would wear one), I never get hot.
It also seems to me that sockless is the only way to go with an outfit like this. If I wanted to dress it up a little more, I would wear a light sock matched the trousers in cotton or linen. But since I was looking for that summertime casual, I chose not to wear any socks. If fact, I don’t wear socks a lot in summer. It’s the perfect time of year to let your ankles breathe.
So what would I change about this outfit for next time? Yes, I plan on wearing it again! I think I would first lose the jeans and add a pair of white, cotton trousers. I actually had a pair I forgot about (which reminds me, I need to organize my closet). The lightness of the whole outfit was thrown off by the weight of the denim. Fortunately, it was cool enough that day that I got away with it, but next time I may not be so lucky. Second, I would add a little color with a pocket square. The blue and white looks wonderful together, but a pop on my chest would probably complete the look. What do you think the outfit needs? Let me know if the comments below!
