Shave of the Day (SOTD) – November 26, 2014

Posted on November 26, 2014November 9, 2017 By Drew

I decided I should probably write a little something on these SOTD pictures I’ve been posting rather than just slapping a pic and some links up.  I don’t think they will be long posts; just something to give a little context.

It’s funny how things change as time goes by.  I remember sitting with my wife going through the huge sample kit from Truefitt & Hill seeing which fragrances we liked best.  Obviously scents are a personal choice, but I think it’s only fair to make sure the person I spend almost every day with isn’t offended by how a smell.  Anyway, we settled on the 1805, although I’m considering trying the Grafton next.  Well, I bought the shaving cream, aftershave and cologne.  When they arrived I started using them almost immediately and didn’t like them.  I mostly didn’t like the performance of the shaving cream.  In fact, I think that was all I didn’t like, but it affected my perception of the 1805 family, and by extension the Truefitt & Hill family.  Of course, a poor craftsman blames his tools.  The problem wasn’t the shaving cream, it was me.  My technique was awful.  Looking back now, I can’t believe my face didn’t get more chewed up with all the pressure I was using.  Regardless, the 1805 stayed in my cabinet unused for a long time.  Recently, I decided to give it another go, and surprise, surprise my shave was fantastic!  These are great products from a great company.  Granted, they are on the pricier side, but you are paying for quality from one of the first names in men’s grooming products.  It’s no wonder Truefitt & Hill is one of the preferred purveyors of products to the H.R.H., The Duke of Edinburgh.

Razor: Merkur Heavy Duty 34C (read our review here)

Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless Greens

Brush: Semogue 1305 Boar Brush

Shaving Cream: Truefitt & Hill 1805 Shaving Cream

Aftershave: Truefitt & Hill 1805 Aftershave

Cologne Truefitt & Hill 1805 Cologne

Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Review

Posted on November 13, 2014November 5, 2017

Before I ever started traditional shaving with a safety razor, I did a lot of research.  Probably too much.  That’s how I am about a lot of purchases though.  I look and read, read and look.  Sometimes I wish I was better at just  going with my gut and saving…

Barrister and Mann “Seville” Shaving Soap Review

Posted on November 25, 2014October 4, 2017

As anyone who uses Barrister and Mann’s shaving soaps knows, their scents are fantastic.  Just read my review of their “Roam” soap to see how great they are.  Lucky for me the “Seville” was no different.  While the actually fragrances used are unique to each type of soap, the level…
