Razorock XXX Shaving Soap and Aftershave Review

Posted on July 26, 2016October 4, 2017 By Drew

In case you missed it, the Razorock XXX line made my list of favorite scent combinations. But I figured this shaving soap and aftershave splash were due for their own review.

One of the many things at which Razorock excels is providing reasonably priced shaving products which match up amazingly well with other known (and potentially more expensive) products and fragrances. In this case, XXX is based on the iconic Acqua di Parma “Colonia” fragrance. This one hundred year old cologne is on the short list of my favorite colognes, and is probably my absolute favorite to wear on hot days. In fact, I’m wearing it right now as I write this review. I don’t want to toot my own horn, but I smell damn good. With a blend of citrus, herbs, and lavender, this fragrance will, as one Basenotes user suggested, transport you to the Mediterranean. The scent of Razorock’s XXX shaving soap and aftershave pay tribute to this cologne perfectly. It’s almost as if these three were meant to be sold together.

Shaving Soap

Lathering this soap is incredible easy. A little blooming, a little loading (about thirty seconds), and about a minute of lather building is more than enough for a full three-pass shave. The slickness is on point too. My razor just glides over my face with this soap. The cushion is on the lighter side, but I found that helps me practice my deft touch. Once, my touch was as light as it needed to be, the cushion became a non-issue. Something I like to point out with Razorock soaps is that I do not recommend touchups without another application of lather. Some soaps will leave some oil behind allowing you to touch up as you go. Razorock shaving soaps, in my experience, shave away very cleanly. As such, going back over a spot without some fresh lather is ill-advised. All said, this soap is the perfect gateway drug to wet shaving. The ease of use, the scent, the performance, and the price are spot on. If you’re looking to introduce someone to traditional wet shaving, this is one of the soaps I would recommend.

Aftershave Splash

If I wanted an aftershave to pair with Razorock’s “XXX” shaving soap, I could not ask for much more than this one. The fragrance is perfect. There’s a slight burn, but nothing out of the ordinary for an alcohol-based aftershave, which I tend to prefer. And the post-shave feel is excellent. This aftershave also features a decent menthol cool which kicks in about thirty seconds after application.

Summer is in full swing and, and I said, Acqua di Parma “Colonia” is probably my favorite warm weather fragrance. Having a high performing shaving soap and aftershave in my shaving cabinet that pair so well is absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend both the shaving soap and aftershave.

Regards,
