Not too long ago I wrote a post about pairing my navy blue blazer with a pair of white jeans, and I liked it, but I didn’t love it. White jeans are fantastic, and I think every guy should have a pair. And not just for summer either. White jeans can be worn all year long. Those old rules about no white after Labor Day are tired. I say, buck the system and wear white whenever you want. But something about that outfit troubled me. I didn’t like the pairing of the heavier denim with the lighter hopsack. I think white jeans would work better with a navy blue flannel blazer or doeskin jacket. So, I wanted to take another shot at getting white trousers right.
These white pants made all the difference with my navy hopsack blazer. They’re much lighter than denim, but wtill have a little structure. I should also point out that they have two sets of pleats, but they’re done correctly and don’t puff out at the hips. I used to be very anit-pleats, but that was before I knew what good pleats looked like. I was mired in my old prejudices from the 90s along with boxy suits and sweater vests. These please look great.
I’ve worn this jacket many times, but I don’t think I’ve ever really written about it too much. Suitsupply has a good number of navy blue jackets available, but this is my favorite. It is $100 more than some of the others, but the fabric is incredible. The cloth is a Super 130s from E. Thomas, and I think it’s worth every additional penny. I also love all the patch pocket details.
