What Next?

Posted on November 11, 2016 By Drew

Since Tuesday’s election, I’ve really been struggling to justify this blog. How can I write about things that seem so trivial like men’s style and grooming when there are much more serious issues at play in our world? Let’s face it, what I write about is rather superficial. I’ve spent the last few days wondering if it’s even worth the time. I’ve questioned whether I should write about more important things. I’ve debated whether what I’m doing has any bearing on this world. I’m not just talking about the election either. That was the catalyst, but the more global news I read, the more I want to be a part of that conversation.

I shared Grace’s post the other day on Twitter, but I wanted to point it out here too. She also seemed to be struggling with creating “cheerful content” during troubling times. I didn’t feel like posting about shaving cream or some new flannel trousers I had recently discovered. It just didn’t seem important. However, her post really helped me to figure out what I want to do going forward.

If this is election has taught me anything, it’s that there are a lot of angry people in this country. I won’t go into all the reasons for the anger, but it exists. If my posts can brighten someone’s day a bit. If I can help someone feel better about how their skin looks or how their body looks or how they look in any way, THAT is what I should do. If I can make some clothing recommendations, so a guy feels more confident going into a job interview helping him nail that interview, then I have helped. If I can recommend a face washing system that helps someone who has struggled with skin blemishes, then I can feel good decreasing that person’s pain.

If you’ve read a few of my “soapboxy” posts in the last few months, or if you’ve been following me on Twitter, you can probably guess that the election didn’t go the way I had hoped. I’m going to continue to be vocal on Twitter about my feelings. I’m going to continue to write periodic posts about issues other than men’s style and grooming. Maybe some sort of monthly letter from the editor? I haven’t figured that out yet. But I’m going to continue writing about wet shaving, clothing, outfit inspirations, and other men’s topics. I’m going to keep doing it because I think it actually is important. I think people do need to feel good about themselves, and I want to help.

Unbroken: A Lesson in Perseverence

Posted on June 2, 2015November 13, 2017

Growing up I used to read a ton.  I loved The Hardy Boys, Choose Your Own Adventure, Encyclopedia Brown.  As a teenager I got really into both fantasy series by Terry Brooks.  He’s still one of my favorite authors.  I think like most people, I lost my appetite for reading…

Why I’m with Her

Posted on November 7, 2016November 14, 2017

*There’s an old adage professing that one should never discuss politics or religion. I disagree. I think the only way we can work through our differences as a country, or as a planet for that matter, is to have those difficult discussions. And those discussions must be had with goals…

Why Is Ryan Lochte Getting Killed in the Press AND What Can You Learn from Him?

Posted on August 25, 2016November 15, 2017

One of the biggest stories this week revolves around U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte and his actions during The Games in Rio. Yesterday, a friend asked me why I thought the story had gotten this big and why was Lochte getting hammered as hard as he is.
