Where Do We Go from Here?

Where Do We Go from Here?

Posted on June 23, 2020June 22, 2020 By Drew

It’s been over a month since I’ve posted anything on the blog or social media. The death of George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the continuation of the COVID-19 crisis hit me pretty hard. I have a hard time trying to understand people who can’t see the systemic racism and people who don’t trust science. I’ve had a difficult time justifying posting about men’s style when there are so many more important issues going on in the world. I’ve realized, though, that the answer is not inactivity or procrastination.

I’m Going to Keep Writing

I’m going to continue writing about men’s style, menswear, and men’s grooming. I’m going to keep doing it because maybe I can help someone out there. Maybe there’s someone who’s unhappy with their life who could use a little style advice to kick start that change that leaves one less miserable person in the world. Maybe there’s someone who’s going for that dream job and wants to look extra sharp for that final interview. I’m also going to keep writing because I have things to say. This blog is as much an outlet for me as it is a resource for others.

I’m Going to Be Vocal

With the way the country (and the world) has gone this year, the time for silence from the sidelines is over, especially for white people. Change is only made when people speak out about the wrongs they see. I’m not going to spam, not going to rant and rave, but I’m not going to be silent either. I believe people with a platform, regardless of how small, have a responsibility to use that platform for good. I’ve come to respect the writers, bloggers, and influencers who have been speaking out so much more over the past month than the ones who haven’t.

Why?

I believe that character and style go hand-in-hand. You can’t look good on the outside if you’re ugly inside. Walking with confidence always looks stylish, and knowing you’re doing good is one of the biggest confidence boosters I know. It’s impossible to discuss how to dress and smell and take care of your skin without discussing how to take care of your personality too.

So I’m going to start posting again. I’m going to put pictures up on Instagram again. I’ll keep tweeting about what I think. I just hope to do a better job of it than I was before.

Why I’m with Her

Posted on November 7, 2016November 14, 2017

*There’s an old adage professing that one should never discuss politics or religion. I disagree. I think the only way we can work through our differences as a country, or as a planet for that matter, is to have those difficult discussions. And those discussions must be had with goals…

Take Some Personal Time: The Hobbit

Posted on January 15, 2015October 4, 2017

Last month Peter Jackson released, what we can safely assume is, the final installment of his Middle-Earth saga with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.  I’ve thoroughly enjoyed these movies, although I probably enjoyed the Lord of the Rings Trilogy a little more than the Hobbit trilogy.  I…

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

Posted on February 27, 2015October 4, 2017

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius Several months ago wrote a blog post recommending the book The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan Holiday.  I described it as a book that changed the way I viewed the world.  After reading the book I wanted to know more about Ryan’s philosophy and the…
