Race Sundays are awesome. I never thought I would be an auto racing guy, but five years ago I decided to tune into the F1 season opener in Australia and haven’t missed a race since. At first I had no idea what as going on, but slowly, over the years I learned. The only trouble for me is the combination of time zones and kids. I don’t typically have the luxury to tune in at any hour of the day or get up in the middle of the night to watch a race. So I’ll usually DVR a race or catch it the ESPN app on a replay. The only trouble with all of this is social media. I follow a lot of the F1 team accounts, and they love posting updates. My plan on race days is to go on a social media blackout and stay off until I watch the race.
This Sunday was no exception, and prior to the race I went through Instagram checking everything before the race started. Who should pop up into my timeline but the one and only Becks, David Beckham, touring the race paddocks for the Bahrain Grand Prix. He was checking out Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari, etc., and his outfit was SHARP! I loved it. I mean, it was something I could wear all summer long. I’m sure it was custom, and not something I could ever afford. However, I want to find something as close as possible without breaking the bank. I even ask on Instagram stories to find out if other people wanted to see me pull together a similar, but more affordable, outfit. People definitely wanted it, so I thought it would be fun to see what I could create.
The Look for Less: David Beckham at the Bahrain Grand Prix
Belt: Carmina // Shirt: Harvie & Hudson // Sunglasses: Ray-Ban
Jacket 1: Brooks Brothers // Jacket 2: Suitsupply // Pocket Square: Brooks Brothers
Socks: Pantherella // Trousers: Suitsupply // Shoes: Cheaney
Both Beckham’s jacket and trousers appear to be linen, and his shirt looks like a light weave like poplin. It looks so lightweight and effortless to wear. This, obviously, makes sense as the race was in the desert. I am including two jackets depending on how much shoulder structure you like. For those that like a little padding, go with the Brooks Brothers one. If you prefer a softer shoulder, the Suitsupply jacket is the way to go. I also took a few liberties with the socks and belt (even though a belt isn’t needed with these trousers) as I couldn’t see them, but I think they make sense. I’d love to know what you think of this outfit, and what you think of pulling together looks for less in general. Is this something you’d like to see more of in the future?
