Strike Gold Shave Nixon Shaving Soap with Brush and Razor

Strike Gold Shave Nixon Shaving Soap Review

Posted on January 12, 2018January 14, 2018 By Drew

It happens at least once a day. My Instagram notifications pop up with a live video announcement from Strike Gold Shave. Frank Misa likes to pop into my day with a little behind the scenes and the occasional promo or contest for one of his soaps or razors. When he reached out to me to try one of his shaving soaps, I was definitely interested in seeing what he had to offer. Frank graciously sent me a sample of the Strike Gold Nixon shaving soap.

Strike Gold Shave Fragrance

This shaving soap offers a really pleasant fragrance that’s not too strong or too light. It may be on the lighter side of my preferences, but I like this strong ones. This fragrance is a real crowd pleaser for all scent strength preferences. I was picking up a citrus-floral scent, but I couldn’t quite place it, so I reached out to Frank and he described it as a sweet and sour blend of Sorrento lemons, sugar cane, and lemon zest. This is a wonderfully fresh scent perfect for any morning shave.

Strike Gold Shave Lather

I have one small complaint in regards to building lather with this soap, and it’s about the packaging of the sample. So it’s not really a big deal, but I wanted to mention it. The sample container was small (obviously, it’s a sample) and the soap is too hard to pop out, so loading my brush was slightly challenging. I just couldn’t get enough of my brush on the soap to load it quickly. I did load my brush, and I was able to build a very thick and plentiful lather. I’m sure this isn’t really a problem for a full-size tub either. However, I always like to recount my personal experience.

Strike Gold Shave Performance

Now for the good news. This is a top performing veggie-based soap. Anytime I see coconut oil as an ingredient, I know I’m getting slick, comfortable shave. This was no exception. In addition to the quality of the actual shave, the post-shave feel was out of this world. My skin felt supple and soft, but protected and clear at the same time. This soap consistently have me such a close and clean shave that I’m surprised it’s a veggie soap.

Now for a little more bad news. Strike Gold only does limited runs of their soaps, so the Nixon soap is no longer available. However Frank is always updating his Etsy page with other limited runs, all named in honor of the Presidents. I highly recommended checking out these runs and grabbing any soaps that are available.

Wet Shaving Gifts for Mother’s Day Ok, so this is probably a little late, I know.  But that’s how we shop, right?  I usually have a ton of gift ideas in my head weeks before an event like a birthday or Christmas, but none of the gifts ever seem perfect….

I don’t remember what brush I first used when I started shaving with a safety razor.  I think it came with the sample pack of shaving creams that I bought from some major manufacturer of shaving products.  It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t amazing either.  Fortunately, it was good enough to keep me in the wet shaving game.

Beau Brummell Grooming Products Review

My face has been an experimental playground lately, testing all sorts of skin cleansers and moisturizers. Feel free to read my other two most recent reviews on Floris and Penhaligon’s, with a combined 432 years of experience between them. Today’s review comes from a much different company, a burgeoning New York based startup named after Beau Brummell, the 18th century male style icon who influenced politics and fashion with his own personal attention to grooming and dress. Can you imagine if Beau Brummell was alive today? His Instagram feed would be required reading.
