Some of My Favorite Scent Combinations Part 2

Posted on February 19, 2016October 4, 2017 By Drew

If you missed yesterday’s post, I decided to split this up because I had more combinations than I originally realized. Be sure you don’t miss part 1!

Old World Barbershop

La Toja Shaving Stick

Floid “Vigoroso” Aftershave Splash

When I use this combination, and I use it a lot, I feel like Ernest Hemingway, sitting in a barber’s chair in Spain, formulating the ideas for The Sun Also Rises. This is an Old World European set up. It’s simple, clean, earth, and powdery.

Daytime Business

D.R. Harris “Windsor” Shaving Soap

Fine “L’Orange Noir” Aftershave Splash

Terre d’Hermes EDP

Looking for something work friendly? I have trouble with this one because I usually like stronger colognes that might not be appropriate for the office. I love this combination because the Terre d’Hermes isn’t weak, but it still suits a professional environment. This blend of citrus and cedar is perfect for everyday wear.

Grassy and smoky

D.R. Harris “Marlborough” Shaving Soap

Fine Accoutrements “Clean Vetiver” Aftershave

Guerlain Vetiver EDT

This is the combination that I probably use more often than anything else. Mostly because the Guerlain Vetiver so much, and Fine’s aftershave pairs so well. To me, this is what vetiver is supposed to be. Fine Accoutrements has also announced plans to release their own shaving soap (reportedly based on the same formula as Tabac). Fine’s first scent will be their American Blend, but if they release a Fresh Vetiver version, I may have to update this combination!

Summertime Cocktails

Dr Jon’s “Big Green Monster” Shaving Soap

4711 Aftershave Splash

Penhaligon’s “Juniper Sling” EDT

A bucket of Coronas, a couple G&Ts, and a few margheritas. Sounds like a perfect summer afternoon. But did you ever wonder how to keep yourself fresh on those days? Sitting out in the sun drinking booze does not do anything to help you smell any better. This combination with a mix of lime, basil, herbs, and juniper won’t overpower anyone, but won’t let you smell like a bar at last call either.

(Dr. Jon’s is discontinuing the “Big Green Monster” shaving soap, so make sure you get it while it lasts!)

Sandalwood

Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Soap

Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Aftershave Splash

Creed “Bois du Portugal” EDP

Sandalwood is one of the most sought after men’s fragrances. When done correctly, sandalwood is smoky, creamy, slightly leathery, and, yes, woodsy. Unfortunately, I think too many houses focus on sweeter variations, which just don’t do it for me. But Taylor of Old Bond Street and Creed get it right. This is a gentleman’s combination, Perfect for an evening at a jazz lounge or dinner with the boys.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and I would love to know what your go-to combinations are. Maybe you could point me in the direction of a few new favorites.

Regards,

I think when most men think about Sephora, they picture rows and rows of make-up, women’s grooming products, and an experience that seems quite intimidating. Surprisingly, Sephora also carries a fair amount of men’s grooming, fragrance, and skin care products. All it takes is a quick venture inside; however, even…
