Soap Commander Courage Aftershave Balm Review

Posted on March 2, 2015October 4, 2017 By Drew

When I signed up for my Wet Shave Club subscription, I had two goals in mind.  First, having the ability to try new products every month.  Second, having a constant fresh supply of new products to review.  (If you would like to have some more information on Wet Shave Club, please read the popular article I wrote on subscription services)  However, there was one thing I hadn’t thought of.  Up until this point, I had written reviews on products I willingly purchased and used.  Now I would have to write reviews on products I might not typically use.  Imagine my surprise when I opened the box and saw an aftershave balm staring back at me, specifically the Soap Commander “Courage” aftershave balm.

So what’s the problem?  Well, I don’t typically use aftershave balms.  I would describe my skin as normal to oily, and balms always seem to leave my face feeling greasy after using them.  Additionally, I typically have a skin break out a few days later.  Nevertheless, I decided to muster my own courage and give the balm a try.  I had seen Soap Commander pretty frequently online, so I was confident in the quality.  I just didn’t know if it was for me.

Boy was I wrong.

This aftershave balm is killer!  It’s completely different from anything I have used before.  It’s extremely light and not goopy or greasy at all.  The face feel after using the balm is wonderful too.  Another great feature of the Soap Commander balm is the added menthol.  Some of my favorite aftershave splashes contain menthol for that cooling effect, and with the addition of menthol, this balm has that effect too.

Cedar is one of my favorite year-round scents. Cedar is one of my favorite year-round scents.

The scent of the “Courage” is outstanding too.  With citrus, pepper and woods it’s right up my alley, especially on a colder day.  Of course, one of the things I love about cedar scents is that they can be worn almost year round.  Obviously, the scent doesn’t last as long as a cologne, but you can definitely still smell it a few hours later.  If the “Courage” scent isn’t for you, don’t get overwhelmed looking different names of all the balms Soap Commander has available, just use their handy Scent Listing and find the one that’s right for you.  Personally, I can’t wait to try a few more, like “Endurance”, “Love” and “Purpose”.

The Soap Commander “Courage” aftershave balm was not at all what I was expecting, and I am so thankful for that.  This is a top-notch product that I highly recommend.  My face feels cooled, protected, moisturized and, most importantly, prepared for tomorrow’s shave.  I’ve always said that the last step of one shave should be considered the first step in your next shave, and the Soap Commander “Courage” aftershave balm is that perfect step.

When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone with products?  Have any experiences that surprised you?  Respond here with a comment or anywhere on social media.

Regards,

Beau Brummell Grooming Products Review

Posted on September 20, 2016November 15, 2017

My face has been an experimental playground lately, testing all sorts of skin cleansers and moisturizers. Feel free to read my other two most recent reviews on Floris and Penhaligon’s, with a combined 432 years of experience between them. Today’s review comes from a much different company, a burgeoning New York based startup named after Beau Brummell, the 18th century male style icon who influenced politics and fashion with his own personal attention to grooming and dress. Can you imagine if Beau Brummell was alive today? His Instagram feed would be required reading.

Floid Vigoroso Aftershave Review

Posted on April 9, 2015October 4, 2017

Floid Vigoroso Aftershave Review I’ve blogged about how shaving products have reminded me of celebrities or film characters in the past, and today is another example.  In 1926 Ernest Hemingway finished writing The Sun Also Rises, the story of an American ex-patriot living in Paris during the roaring ‘20s.  To…

Blaviar “Sigma Aftershave Balm Review

Posted on May 26, 2016November 14, 2017

These days, not too many shaving products appear on the wet shaving scene without my knowledge. Sure, there are plenty of brands I have yet to try (don’t worry, I’m coming for you). But I am usually aware. So, when Blaviar contacted me about trying one of their new aftershave balms, I was a little surprised. Here was a company with a product unfamiliar to me, looking for an independent, honest review. I took this as an unique opportunity to try a shaving product about which I had no prior knowledge or opinion.
