Palmolive Shave Stick Lather

Palmolive Shave Stick Review

Posted on October 20, 2017October 20, 2017 By Drew

In a wet shaving world filled with exotic fragrances and artisan creations, I find it refreshing to use something simple and easy. One of my favorite “simple” tools is the shaving stick, and in my search for these easy-to-use products, I found my way to the Palmolive shave stick. I’ve already taken a look at a few others like La Toja and D.R. Harris, and now I’ve added to my every growing collection of wet shaving products. The Palmolive shave stick was a little difficult to track down, as it doesn’t seem widely available in the United States. However, I was able to order it through Amazon. Without my usual Prime shipping, the several-week-long wait for the shipment from Europe seemed like an eternity. I think I sometimes forget how good I have it and what life was like before Amazon.

This shaving stick is the ultimate in “no frills” shaving. The stick arrived wrapped in foil and sitting on a plastic base, while packaged inside a simple box. This shaving soap also has no discernible fragrance that I could pick up. That’s not to say it doesn’t have a fragrance. I’ve seen it described as having a piney/anise scent, but I was not getting that. So I wasn’t thrilled with the fragrance (or lack thereof), but what was I expecting from a six dollar shave stick?

This is, by far, one of the slickest shave soaps I’ve ever used. I’m not exaggerating when I tell you that I barely felt a thing when I used this stick. I did find that I needed a fair amount of water to build my lather with the Palmolive shave stick. So be sure to use a brush that can hold a lot of water.

If you’ve never used a shaving stick before, they are so simple. I think they are perfect for busier days when I want to get through my shave a little faster. (They are also wonderful for travel). I wet my face and the tip of the shave stick. Then I rub the stick all over my beard. Finally, I take a damp shaving brush and begin building my lather as if I had shaving cream or soap already loaded onto the brush, adding water as I go. So easy!

Recommendation

I recommend the Palmolive shave stick for anyone looking for an inexpensive, travel-friendly, quality shave, as long as you’re not bothered by a lack of fragrance. If, on the other hand, you need the smells in the morning, a shave stick like this one, might be a preferable option.

In the traditional wet shaving world there is a lot of discussion around stylish Italian, luxurious British, and artisan American grooming products. Japanese-made shaving gear usually follows closely behind, especially in the hardware discussion. However, there are some neglected products from a particular geographic area which, I think, deserve a seat at that table. I’m talking about The Iberian Peninsula, specifically Spain and Portugal.
