Man, it has been a minute since I did a Weekend Reading post. I was thinking today, “What’s this blog all about?” I don’t want it to be an Instagram model, quick-hit type of site. I want to educate and provide helpful information to guys who are looking to up their style and feel a little better about themselves. I see these high end blogs recommending (or at least modeling) expensive clothes that the average guy could never afford. Now, I get the idea of aspirational marketing where you might not be able to run out and buy that Patek Philippe that you saw in a magazine, but you might try to buy something less expensive that fits that mold. However, I want Tailor & Barber to be a place where guys can come to get recommendations for items that they will actually be able to buy. Of course, I totally understand that there will be plenty of men out there who cannot afford the brands that I like, but I absolutely want to hit what I think is a reasonable price point for clothes, shoes, and grooming products.
I’ve thought about instituting price ceilings, but I don’t really like the idea of limiting myself in case I come across something so stand out that I have to suggest. For example, I recommended a Golden Fleece camel overcoat in my post on the new Brooks Brothers fall collection the other day. It was an expensive coat, nd I acknowledged that, but it was incredible, and I thought it was too good to not highlight. However, I do want to stay mindful of price for the most part. And if anyone ever finds an item I suggest too expensive, please reach out and ask for some alternatives. I love finding values!
So what can Tailor & Barber be in the future? Well, I want this to be a resource for any guy looking to learn more. I want a reader who’s not quite sure where to begin (or continue) developing his style to come here and find the answers to his questions and receive valuable, relatable advice. I want to help.
With this in mind, I’d love to get some help from everyone too. Let me know what questions you have, what grooming products you would like reviewed, what pieces of clothing you’re unsure of how to style, what clothing companies you would like to know more about. In short, to quote Jerry Maguire, “Help me help you!” So leave a comment, email me, DM me on Instagram or Twitter. Let me know what I can do for you.
For now though, on to the reads.
