Let’s Be Honest…

Posted on August 20, 2014October 4, 2017 By Drew

Let’s be honest…

You’re not Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey or Bradley Cooper.  Well, if you are, please spread the word on this blog as much as possible.  But, most likely, you aren’t.  You don’t have an army or stylists, tailors, trainers, nutritionists or publicists helping you look as perfect as possible every time you step out the front door.  It’s ok, neither do I.  What I do try to have is honesty.  Honesty about my style, my hair, my skin, my body, my clothes, etc. I try not to force those things to be something they aren’t.

One of the most important factors in looking your best (and as a result, feeling your best) is finding what works best for you.  Sure, it’s great to say you have a 34 inch waist on your pants.  Except for one problem: you have a 36 in waist on your body.  Well, now you’re squeezing into pants that are just too small for you, and it shows.  Your shirt is untucking as a result.  The seat of your dress pants are too tight, and they just split right before a meeting.  All of these things have happened to me.  Fortunately, they were and are all easily fixable.  Be honest, and buy the right size clothing.  If you don’t know what size you are, go to a store and ask a sales associate to measure for so you know what sizes you need to buy.  Most people will be extremely helpful.  I would recommend going to Brooks Brothers or Nordstrom.  I have found the associates at these stores to be more knowledgeable and helpful than others.  Look out for another blog post to get some tips on alterations and tailoring.

Another important key to style when it comes to clothing is deciding whether a current trend or a look or a type of clothing is right for you.  I’m not a big fan of skinny jeans…or hipsters for that matter, but they do help to prove my point.  Skinny jeans are popular right now, just like baggy clothes used to be popular in the 90s.  Although I can already see they’re on the way out.  Thank God.  Here are two examples of a guy who can pull off skinny jeans and a guy who cant:

This guy has This guy has “the look”. Just...no Just…no

Styles like this make it crucial for you to be honest with yourself about yourself.  Just because something is popular, doesn’t mean you should wear it.  If it looks good on you, go for it!  But if you’re forcing something just because you want to achieve a “look”, you will find that a little honesty will affect your style drastically.

In future posts, we will be sure to highlight current trends and explore what types of guys can and can’t venture into those styles.  Please be sure to comment and share!

Regards,

Guys, Please Stop Doing These Seven Things Right Now!

Posted on October 6, 2014October 4, 2017

I long for a day when men take a little more pride in their appearance, and I apologize in advance for the coming rant, but I just can’t take it any more.  Guys, you’re better than this.  I know you are.  Every day I walk around the city, I see so…

Tuesday Shave and Groom: RazoRock Zi’ Peppino Shaving Soap Review

Posted on December 16, 2014October 4, 2017

I’ve been a fan of RazoRock as a company long before I tried any of their products.  Joe from RazoRock was very helpful in the early days of putting this blog together, and he has offered me valuable advice from time to time since starting.  So I am very happy…

I’m Giving Up on Shaving Creams

Posted on September 25, 2014

I think I’m giving up on shaving creams for good. I will probably only use shaving soaps from here on out.  I’m not sure what it is, but I almost always have a better shave with soaps over creams.  When I say better, I mean better in almost every way:…
