How to Choose the Best Shampoo for Dry Scalp

Posted on March 19, 2018March 18, 2018 By Drew

Sometimes finding the simplest things can cause a person the most grief. Take, for example, choosing your shampoo. On first thought, this may seem like an innocent task to accomplish; however, it can actually be a lot more complicated than you may realize. A typical store that you visit probably has an entire aisle full of different shampoos advertising a wide variety of scents, strengths, and formulas.

Trying to find the right one for yourself can be intimidating, to say the least. That’s where this article comes in. Following, you’ll find a list of different tips that you can use the next time you find yourself in the market for shampoo. Not only that, but you might even be able to find one that suits you better than the product you have been using.

What if you Have no Hair?

You may think that no hair means you have no reason to shampoo, but you would be wrong in following that train of thought. Just because you don’t have hair doesn’t give you the freedom of skipping a lather in the shower.

It’s just as important, if not more so, to use shampoo and moisturizing products when you have visibly less hair. If you read this article about shampoo for bald head, then you can see that the very first tip is to not ditch the hair products. This is because regardless of whether you have hair or not, shampoo is actually treating your skin. The condition of your hair ends up being a side effect of adequately treating your scalp.

Check Yourself Out

Looking for a new shampoo is as simple as checking out what you’re working with before you head to the store. You can do this yourself, with the help of a trusted friend or family member, or even make a visit to your local salon to get their assistance. What you’re looking for is the presence of things like flakes from having dry skin, or excess oil that can be hard to manage. This information can help guide you in the right direction when picking out a product to try because different formulas are designed to target different things.

Formulas

After you’ve given your scalp a thorough once-over, you can begin learning more about what product is right for you. An oily scalp is going to need a product with less moisture. No need to add moisture to an area that already has an excess. If this is your situation, then look for something that is volumizing, balancing, or strengthening. This will help keep you clean without weighing your hair down.

Alternatively, if your scalp is dry, you are going to want to look for a product that offers hydrating or smoothing properties. These types of products will help to put moisture back into your scalp. This, in turn, decreases the number of embarrassing flakes you might see. Who knew buying the right shampoo could be such a confidence boost?

What About Dandruff?

It’s definitely possible that your flakes could be from something besides dry skin. A dry scalp tends to be itchy, whereas a scalp with dandruff tends not to be. Either way, many dandruff products tend to have additives that help treat both conditions.

Scent

Scent is obviously more of a personal preference, but it’s still important to discuss in an article about shampoo. One thing worth mentioning is that while many products will have a variety of scents still, you may end up needing a stronger shampoo in order to combat your dry scalp.

If this ends up being true, then you may be faced with a considerably smaller selection of scents to choose from. To remedy this, add a quick squirt of hair gel or a similar product after styling to give off a more favorable scent. Just be sure to wash the product out at the end of the day to prevent buildup and keep your scalp clean.

As you can see, there are certainly more aspects that go into choosing a bottle of shampoo than you may have originally thought. It’s important to remember that regardless of which shampoo you choose, you are treating your scalp and not your hair. The health of your hair is simply a by-product of keeping your scalp healthy.

Conditioner should be used to the ends of hair to help maintain a healthy appearance, but overall shampoo is meant to treat only your scalp. Be sure that whatever product you choose is one that will help hydrate and rejuvenate your scalp to give you the best results. Lastly, ensure that you keep up with regular scalp hygiene, such as washing your hair regularly and removing the buildup of hair products you may use.

Proraso Pre-Shave Review

The first thing I noticed about the Proraso Pre-Shave Cream upon opening the jar is that it is unlike any other pre-shave I have used or seen before.  It’s a cream, not an oil.  It has a bit of a menthol smell.  It looks like it would be too thick…

When I first started shaving with a safety razor years ago, I would finish every shave with an alum block, choosing to skip the aftershave.  This was partially for simplicity’s sake, but I had two other main reasons for doing this.  One, I was low on the learning curve which…
