The idea of putting together a skincare regimen can seem so complicated and confusing at first. I think a lot of men don’t know where to start, and they think using something like a bar of soap or an all-in-one hair and body wash will get the job done (hint: it won’t). Most guys don’t know where to start, they’re not sure which ingredients they should be using, and they need some help. When Geologie Skincare reached out to me to try their personalized skincare system, I thought this could be a great program to introduce to readers of Tailor & Barber. But first, I needed to see how well these products worked on me.
My first step was to take Geologie’s survey to determine which products would be best for my skin. This was quite easy, and it made me really think about what I was hoping to accomplish with regards to my skin. At 44, I’m looking for some anti-aging (which I should probably have started sooner) and sun protection (Which I also should have started sooner). Seriously, if I could pass on one lesson, it’s to use sunscreen. The last thing anyone wants is to look like the Crypt Keeper. I have combination skin, meaning I have oilier spots and drier spots. This can cause issues if my face wash is too strong or too weak. I either break out and dry up, and neither is what I want.
Once I had completed the survey, Geologie recommended their Regimen #26 which included the Everyday Face Wash, Vital Morning Face Cream, Repairing Night Cream, and Nourishing Eye Cream. I ordered and quickly received my personalized regimen, and was ready to record my experience.
Everyday Face Wash
I like grooming products that are simple and easy, and this face wash is just that. I love that the tube has a circle on the back showing me just how much to use, so I don’t waste any. The fragrance was mild but pleasant, which is exactly what I want. With 2% salicylic acid, my skin felt clean, but not dried out. All-in-all, I was quite pleased with the performance of this face wash, and my skin definitely improved. If I could change anything, I would like it to be a little thinner so it was easier to lather.
Vital Morning Face Cream
This was the perfect moisturizer for me. It was lightweight and non-oily. A single pump from the canister provided the perfect amount for post shave moisturizing. It didn’t interfere with my after shave fragrance. My skin stayed grease-free all day. It even contains SPF, protecting my skin from the sun. And yes, as the canister says, use SPF even when it’s cloudy out. UV rays aren’t stopped by clouds.
Repairing Night Cream
This moisturizer was the true hero of Regimen #26. With Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid, both my anti-aging and daily repair were covered. Just like the morning cream, one pump was the perfect amount to use. When I woke up each morning, my skin felt fresh and vibrant without any of that overnight oiliness. This was probably my favorite product from the kit.
Nourishing Eye Cream
Yes, you need an eye cream. No, it’s not girly. Skincare is self care, and the skin under your eyes needs that extra TLC. This eye cream was so effective, and in the morning my eyes looked refreshed and more awake than usual. Remember, the skin around your eyes is thin and sensitive, and a special product like this eye cream will help that skin look its best. However, be sure to use this cream sparingly; just one pump is all you need, and just dab it on, don’t rub it. Treat that skin tenderly.
So how could I improve on Geologie’s skincare regimen? Well, I would only recommend adding two products. I would include a scrub for occasional use. Some days I really want a deep clean and to remove layers of dead skin. I would also like to add a clay mask. I think they’re relaxing and a nice weekly refresher for my face. However, I do recognize that this adds more complexity to a simple but effective system.
