It’s almost here, that insanely overproduced shopping season, kicked off by Black Friday. I’m not a big fan of how commercialized the holidays have become (although I bet they have been that way for longer than we realize). However, I am a big fan of the sales that run this time of year. So, I guess I’m part of the problem, but I’m not going to let that hold me back too much.
My biggest struggle with sales this time of year is that they’re supposed to help me save money on gifts I buy other people. But there are so many things I want to buy for myself too! So, now I’ve decided to vicariously live through you, my readers. There are a few great Black Friday sales that are actually running online before Black Friday. I wanted to highlight four of them and point out a few key pieces from each.
Twillory
If you follow this blog at all, you know that Twillory is one of my favorite shirtmakers. They use great fabrics, real mother-of-pearl buttons on most of their shirts, and offer incredible value with their bundle pricing. So, what could improve? Well, they’ve decided to up the ante with increased discounts on their bundles and their ties.

Charles Tyrwhitt
Some Black Friday sales are limited to a few products. Some require buying stuff you don’t want to get the stuff you do. Fortunately Charles Tyrwhitt has made it easy. Everything is 20% off with the code: BLACKFRI20. And that’s on top of their existing multi-buy discounts. You can also use the code on their luxury items. My favorites include:
J. Crew
I commented the other day that I probably own more clothes from J. Crew than any other brand. I’m not ashamed. They do a great job, and for the past six or seven years, J. Crew’s menswear has been killing it. There have definitely been a few bumps in the road, but overall, this is one of my favorite brand on which I can always rely. I highly recommend:
Allen Edmonds
When venturing into the world of quality shoes, the first real step for many American men is Allen Edmonds. Known for their classic styling and signature 360-degree Goodyear welt, these shoes are built to last a lifetime with resoling. Here are my three favorites:
Feel free to pass this post on to those who are buying gifts for you as well. Even after Black Friday has come and gone, these are brands I will always come back to, and you should too.
