The seasons are starting to change, and fall is fast approaching. As the days turn cooler, some of those Summer colognes aren’t going to pack the punch they did in the dog days of July. Colognes can be dramatically affected by the temperature. I also think it’s an extra touch to match your fragrance to the season. It’s still more important to choose a fall cologne that works well with your skin and your body, but choosing one that works well with the weather too is an exceptional way to stand out. With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of 7 fantastic and unique fall cologne for men. Some you may have heard of, some may be new to you and some may evoke memories. I highly recommend any of these for this coming Autumn.
Tsar by Van Cleef & Arpels
These is nothing about Tsar that isn’t reminiscent of Fall. With notes of pine, lavender, leather and ceder, this 25 year old fragrance will definitely put you in a Autumnal state of mind. And because it might not be a cologne you’re familiar with, you will definitely stand out in a crowd…in a good way.
Tuscan Leather by Tom Ford
I absolutely love this cologne. Any of the Tom Ford Private Blend scents are amazing, but this one always blows me away. The tobacco and leather notes are so rich that you can’t truly appreciate this cologne until you’ve worn it for at least an hour. A little on the pricey side, but worth every penny and then some.
Burberry London
Burberry is a name known very well for its perfumes and colognes, and this cologne is one of the reasons why. Only created in 2006, this tobacco and spice fragrance behaves like a classic. When I wear this I feel almost transported to a damp London Fall day, sitting by a fire and reading a good book with a glass of Scotch.
L’Occitane Cade
When I first think of L’Occitane, I think of soaps, French herbs and shea butter. What you probably don’t know is that this company puts out some surprisingly nice lines of men’s products. Personally, I like the Cade line the best, and the juniper and cedar notes put me right in the mood for late Summer and Fall.
Tabac by Maurer & Wirtz
When someone mentions cologne and Germany, my mind goes to brats, beer and Oktoberfest. But Maurer & Wirtz have been producing this classic fragrance since 1959, and it has been a barbershop favorite since then. If you’re looking for something unique and original, then look no further than this truly Fall scent with notes of lavender, vetiver and amber.
Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood
Taylor of Old Bond Street (TOBS) has a special place in my heart. When I first started shaving with a DE safety razor, Taylor’s was the house I first went to for my starting supplies. Sandalwood was the fragrance I started with too. Taylor’s was opened in 1854. Yes, with an 18. That’s 160 years, friends. I think they have it down.
Green Irish Tweed by Creed
This my go-to cologne. I will wear this all year long, but even more so in the Fall and Winter. The story goes that this cologne was created for Cary Grant. However it was also released in 1985. So if it was created for the incredible Mr. Grant, it wasn’t until later in his life. GIT is also know as the Oscar night cologne and is rumored to be a favorite of George Clooney, Clint Eastwood, Robert Redford, Richard Gere and, oh yeah, Prince Charles himself. Not bad company to keep. Some people might say this is not a fall cologne for men because it’s too green, but I think it’s just green enough to be worn year-round.
Remember, the most important thing to keep in mind when choosing a fall cologne for men is to make sure you like it. You will smell it more throughout the day than anyone else. However, choosing the right scent for the season just adds to your style. Boost that style with one of these fall choices.
