Product Review: Cella Shave Soap Cream

Cella Shave Soap Cream It seems like everyone is trying to get into the wet shaving game today.  From P&G buying The Art of Shaving to the artisans on Etsy, there are so many new products out there.  My guess is that it’s only a matter of time before these folks move on from just wet shaving and into actual DE safety razor shaving and straight razor shaving.  Without commenting on the quality of these other vendors, it’s nice to know there are some companies out there with real experience in the world of wet shaving.  Cella is one.  These guys have been around for over a hundred years.  And in all that time the Cella Shave Soap Cream has not really changed.  I had been reading great things about this soap, but I had to see for myself.  Can something from the 19th century be as good or better as some of the new shaving products out there?  Here’s what I found out. There were two things I noticed the first time I opened my tub of Cella.  First was the texture.  I wasn’t sure what to expect from…

My Morning Routine – The Best Way to Wake Up

Wake up to greet the sun! I have found that I am most productive and feel best on the days that get started right.  I’m sure you are too.  As a creature of habit, I have tried to create a morning routine that captures the elements of my best mornings and rolls them into one routine that I can put in place day in and day out.  What I am proposing is my ideal routine.  It may not be yours.  Hopefully, you can put this into practice for you, adapt it to your life or use it as an inspiration to get your morning routine down.  My only hope is that this makes your days better. 5:00 am – Wake Up For some of you this might sound way too early, but I know I am much more productive when I’m up early and have my personal time before the rest of the world gets going.  If I can get done the things I want to do before the demands of life start tugging on me, then I can give those demands the attention they deserve and feel better about myself during the rest of the day…

Geo. F. Trumper Coral Skin Food Review

Geo. F. Trumper Coral Skin Food There are only a few shaving products that I would consider necessary and something I could not shave without.  Geo. F. Trumper Coral Skin Food is one.  I don’t even know if I could find a replacement if I had to.  So, I will freely admit that this review is probably somewhat biased, but I will do my best to review this product objectively.  Remember, that we will never recommend a product that we wouldn’t use ourselves. For years I tried to suffer through the pain and skin irritation caused by most aftershaves.  Today my typical post-shave routine consists of cold water, an Alum Block and the Trumper Skin Food, usually the coral variety.  If I’m looking for a scent, I leave that to my cologne.  Colognes are one of the few products on which I recommend splurging, but I’ll save that for a different blog post. I am always looking to couple quality and value in any product I recommend, and this is no exception.  My last bottle of the Geo. F. Trumper Coral Skin Food in the 200mL size lasted a year and a half&#8230…

5 Things You Can Do Right Now To Boost Your Style

Tame those quills! 1. Use half as much hair product as you’re currently using. Almost every guy I talk to or see, has way too much product in their hair.  Hair looks better when you or someone else can run their fingers through it, not when you have a hair helmet or half a gallon of “goop” in it or look like a porcupine.  Fortunately this problem has a very simple solution.  Next time you are getting ready to style your hair, put half of the product back in the container before you put it in your hair.  And when you put the hair product in, run your fingers through the back of your hair first.  Remember: you can always add more, but you can’t take any out. 2. Pick a cologne and stick with it for a month. I tend to rotate through a few colognes during the year, but I try to keep them seasonal.  So, I don’t have a true “signature scent” that I wear day in and day out, and I don’t suggest you do either.  What I do suggest is that you have…

Proraso Pre-Shave Review

The first thing I noticed about the Proraso Pre-Shave Cream upon opening the jar is that it is unlike any other pre-shave I have used or seen before.  It’s a cream, not an oil.  It has a bit of a menthol smell.  It looks like it would be too thick to use.  These difference combine to contribute to a truly remarkable shaving experience.  Just an almond-sized dollop on my finger is all I needed to bump the quality of my shave ten-fold. While the cream appears thick in the jar, once I got a little on my fingers it felt much lighter and very slick.  I massaged a little gently in my palms before applying it to my face in a circular motion.  A little water was all I needed to wash the excess cream off my hands.  This alone was much easier than most oils.  The smell of menthol definitely perked me up too. I let this sit on for a few minutes while I started my lather, and once I was ready I lathered whatever cream or soap I was using right over the Proraso Pre-Shave. My first pass glided so smoothly…

Let’s Be Honest…

Let’s be honest… You’re not Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughey or Bradley Cooper.  Well, if you are, please spread the word on this blog as much as possible.  But, most likely, you aren’t.  You don’t have an army or stylists, tailors, trainers, nutritionists or publicists helping you look as perfect as possible every time you step out the front door.  It’s ok, neither do I.  What I do try to have is honesty.  Honesty about my style, my hair, my skin, my body, my clothes, etc. I try not to force those things to be something they aren’t. One of the most important factors in looking your best (and as a result, feeling your best) is finding what works best for you.  Sure, it’s great to say you have a 34 inch waist on your pants.  Except for one problem: you have a 36 in waist on your body.  Well, now you’re squeezing into pants that are just too small for you, and it shows.  Your shirt is untucking as a result.  The seat of your dress pants are too tight, and they just split right before a meeting…

Welcome to Tailor and Barber!

Have a seat and join the conversation about men’s style and grooming! Welcome to Tailor and Barber! Our goal is to become the Internet’s premier resource for men’s style and grooming.  We want to be a resource that is helpful, educational and resourceful serving all men who want to improve their style and have questions or difficulties with their grooming regimen. For centuries men had to enlist the services of tailors and barbers to improve their style.  While we wholeheartedly endorse those services, we do realize that men can take more control of their daily “look” by looking for more properly fitted clothes, wet shaving at home, shining their own shoes, etc.  So, we created Tailor and Barber as a resource for men who want to take control of those areas in their lives. We come from backgrounds that include large and small companies, formal and casual work environments and industries that include Wall Stree, legal agencies, restaurant management and medical sales.  The one truth that extends beyond all of these industries is that how you look matters.  Baggy khakis and a poofy button down shirt are not going to cut it anymore.  You may not…
