Weekend Reading: Horses, Boxing and Chickens

It’s Derby Weekend, and I’m looking forward to a few mint juleps and some horse racing.  My wife I don’t get to too many Derby parties these days, but we like to have the kids pick a horse (they usually choose based on colors) and we all watch together.  It’s already become a family tradition, and the race is about the right length of time for our kids’ attention spans.  And what about Saturday night?  Are you watching the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight?  Do you think boxing is still relevant?  I wish this fight had happened about seven years ago.  That might have saved boxing.  Personally I’d rather watch boxing than MMA.  Not sure why really, just do.  Anyway, on to some of the best of the web this week. 1. Don’t forget about the Macy’s Friends and Family Sale going on right now.  Use the code ShopStyleFF for 25% off.  Maybe pick up a few of our favorite polo shirts or a new blazer for that wedding this summer. 2. Have you ever wondered why a quality chicken costs so…

Weekend Reading Another weekend is upon us, and I know I’ll be spending most of my time working in the yard.  The weather is perfect for yard work.  Warm enough to stay outside, cool enough to not overheat.  Hopefully you’re able to get out in the sun too, but if you have some extra time, go ahead and check out some of our selections below. I’m really excited to see what Brian has planned for the future. If you use a moisturizer (and you should), but hate that oily feeling, check out this article. My favorite sneakers for summer never go out of style. I think I’ve seen too many science fiction movie, and this terrifies me. This is quickly becoming my favorite spring aftershave. Do you use lather or a no-lather shaving cream?  A great question from Craig the Barber. It’s not too early to start thinking about swim trunks. I’m not sure if this story is real or just a publicity stunt for Jurassic World. Speaking of movies, I watched Chef last night.  Definitely recommended, especially if you work or worked in the industry. Megan put together a fantastic piece on…

Weekend Reading

Another week has gone by, and, yet again, the Internet is chock full of great writing, terrible videos and important news.  There are also a couple great sales going on this weekend, so don’t miss the shopping links.  Here’s what I’m reading, watching and shopping for this week. Reading 1. I don’t want to be an alarmist, but as a dog lover, please just keep a watchful eye. 2. The Canuck Shaver is putting out some great reviews these days. 3. Elon Musk thinks big.  The idea of humans being a multiplanet species if coming. 4. My wife and I have noticed for the last few years that J. Crew’s women’s clothes had changed.  Of course their men’s line is still fantastic. 5. This article from Effortless Gent gives some great advice on developing your own style. Watching 6. I don’t even know what to say about this one, but I can’t stop watching it. 7. Australians have a strange sense of humor. 8. Just let it go, mister. Shopping 9. Brooks Brothers has an incredible sale going on that hasn’t been advertised strangely.  You…

Weekend Reading April 10, 2015

We’ve been dog-sitting this week, which means four dogs in the house and four dogs trying to jump in the bed all night, so I’ve been a little tired and a little slow this week.  He’s a good dog, so it’s easy to forgive, but I definitely didn’t get to post or write as much as I wanted to this week.  Next week I’ll be sure to do two product reviews among other articles.  I’m excited to get this razor blade project underway too.  Unfortunately (for the blog anyway, haha) this weekend is chock full of things to distract me, including a few things on this week’s list of reading, watching and shopping, so let’s get to it. Reading 1. First off, this incredible article from Wet Shaving Times is so relatable for so many people who have made the switch to traditional shaving with a safety razor.  If you haven’t made the switch yet, just read this and try not to. 2. In one of two articles this week on suits, this short piece from GQ got me really thinking about what I…

6. I can definitely tell you I’ll be watching the New Muppet Show when it comes out…

3. I’m pretty obsessed these days on perfecting my morning routine (even though it’s pretty crazy right now with two small kids), which is why I subscribe to My Morning Routine.  The most recent post highlighting Amber Rae was a good one…

Weekend Reading

So it looks like we’re ringing in spring with a little snow storm.  Snow at this time of year is so disheartening.  When spring hits, you know that warmer weather is just around the corner, but those snowflakes serve to remind you that that corner is a little further off than you thought…
