Weekend Reading

What a week. What a f@#king week! I think just about everyone is ready for a weekend right about now. I’ve been watching news and reading twitter way too much for my own good. With so much negativity being put into the world, I need to take a step back and find some things to boost my spirits instead of inundating myself with a cacophony of hot takes, tweets, and television talk shows. That’s why this Weekend Reading post will not include a single political story. This post is meant to be a break for me, and a break for you. Poor Max, but Robbie played it off well. Loving this double monk on sale! One of the things I love about traditional wet shaving is the cost. But here are some great products if you’re looking to save even more. This has been my moisturizer of choice lately. No oil, no shine. Love it! I may not be able to afford any Cucinelli, but I can certainly appreciate and adopt some of these style tips. Yep. Gonna need these. Two great posts on what dressing up means today. One from He Spoke Style, and one…

Fall arrived with a vengeance this week. After a few days of temps in the 70s and 80s, a storm rolled through last night bringing those 40s and 50s we’re so used to during this time of year. Don’t get me wrong, I love the extended warm weather, but I’ve been getting ancy to wear some of my fall and winter clothes. I mean, in the last two weeks I’ve written posts on both puffer vests and cable knit sweaters. Now, I’m happy to have some weather to go along with those looks. (By the way, if you haven’t read those posts yet, go check them out.) I’m also pretty excited for this weekend because it’s the United States Grand Prix. And for the first time in decades there is a US-based team in the field. Now, I don’t expect Haas to win the race, but it’s certainly nice to have a ”home team” to cheer for. I bet it’s pretty exciting for the team to have a home race too. If you are planning on watching the race, just remember it’s airing on NBC as…

Yikes! What a week! Honestly, I was just happy I was able to get out one post this week. My kids were off from school different days. One school recognized Columbus Day, and one Yom Kippur. I’m not sure how that worked out, but the end result was me spending two days at The Franklin Institute in one week. They both got to choose where we they wanted to spend the day with me, and they both choose the same place. I love The Franklin Institute, but seeing the same exhibits twice in one week was a bit much. I also went downtown on Tuesday to have some items altered at Suitsupply. I had recently ordered this sport coat and these trousers, and they just needed a few minor touches to finish them up. I’m relatively new to Suitsupply, but so far I have nothing but great things to say about my experiences there. I hope to try to work with them in the future. Thursday was spent writing, and Friday was reserved for some errands. Right now, it’s close to 7:00 and I’m finally getting the chance to work on this post. Luckily “Weekend…

Did you ever have one of those workouts that just messed up your brain for the rest of the day? That was me yesterday. My box programmed “Danny” for us yesterday, and it just destroyed me, even though I only went through about two and half rounds of it…

Weekend Reading

I’m really trying to figure out how many posts are actually feasible in a given week. In the perfect world that only exists in my head, I would publish five articles a week, plus a Weekend Reading on Saturdays. That doesn’t seem to be happening, and it only ends up frustrating me. There always seems to be too much going on. Like tonight, for instance. It’s 8:00 pm, and I’m just sitting down to right this now. We took the kids to a local horse show tonight for an activity. If we don’t entertain them, then they just end up destroying the house. So finding things for the kids to do has to be a priority, and I get that, but I just have to reset my expectations. I’ve also got a new iPhone 7 sitting in its box, still unopened, that I can’t wait to tear into. But first I have to do bedtime, finish this article, and get set up for tomorrow. I’m saving that new phone as a reward for finishing my work. Oh, and there’s going to be a cigar too. You’ll probably see it…

Weekend Reading

How’s post Labor Day life treating everyone? It’s seems like things suddenly got very real this week with school, work projects, soccer practices, intense workouts, and everything else that was held off during the summer. Like a boiling pot that couldn’t be contained any longer, life just had to return to productivity. Meanwhile, let’s talk about Instagram for a second. Has anyone noticed the number of people chomping at the bit for fall? I’m excited for for sweaters and boots as much as the next person, but today was ninety-five degrees. It’s not fall yet. So let’s slow down with all the layers. There’s no way wearing that could be comfortable right now. Maybe in a few weeks, but not now. (Speaking of which, keep an eye out for my Fall Essentials post on Monday) Class move here by the Nebraska football team. The beast is coming. (Less than two weeks!) Make sure you get some cologne to go with it. Brian’s breakdown of shirt collars is like his style, practically flawless. Looking forward to rocking this flannel this fall! I found some great tips here in Antonio’s…

Weekend Reading: August 27, 2016

Late post today! I wanted to work on this weekend reading compilation yesterday, but it never happened. I figured I would get some work done this morning and get it out as soon as I could. It’s surprising how much more time these posts take than one would initially think. Anyway, are you happy the F1 summer break is over? I definitely am! Spa this weekend! I understand why it’s important for everyone to have some time off, but I miss my racing weekends when it’s gone. There are some great style and grooming articles this week here, I recommend reading all of them. There are also some great end-of-summer sales going on right now. Most of my product links are sale items too. Overall, I think there’s some great stuff here this week. This breakdown of dress shirt sizing by Threadbase is the best I have come across. There’s a lot of information here! Need a cotton blazer for next summer? Grab it now! Another great breakdown here. This time it’s from Art of Manliness regarding dress shoes. Under $60 for a Brooks Brothers cotton cable knit sweater? Yes, please! Yes…
