Men’s Fall Style Essentials for 2017

If the weather ever starts acting like fall around here, I can actually break out some of my fall clothes like my duck boots and waxed cotton jacket. I mean, it’s felt like summer all week here with temperatures in the 80s. That’s very strange for Philadelphia this time of year. But the weather is eventually going to change, so I thought it was the perfect time to run down my list of men’s fall style essentials. I think what I love most about fall fashion is the functionality. Winter is cold, summer is hot, spring is wet. But fall? Fall can be all three. We need clothes that can face all three and adapt as the day changes. Consequently, this means waterproof outer layers, breathable layering pieces, tough footwear, and a few accessories to pull it all together. I also am really into the versatility of fall clothes. Want to wear jeans and a tweed jacket? Cool. How about some corduroy trousers and a denim jacket? Perfect. Mixing and matching is most easily done during autumn. Try rocking a blazer with a pair of shorts, and you might get a few looks. But…

Kingsman Style for Less

I am very excited to see the new Kingsman movie which premiered last week. If you haven’t seen Kingsman: The Secret Service yet, definitely go check it out. I thought it was a great modern take on the over-the-top 1960s British spy flicks. One of the things that makes Kingsman special is the clothes. The clothes are truly amazing in the film, and the Kingsman style continues in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. In fact, the wardrobes are so nice, the creators of the movie launched a clothing line at the same time using the actual clothes used in the film. The only trouble for me is that the clothes are a bit out of my price range. A Kingsman suit and a pair of brogues will set you back between $2,000 and $3,000!

Saint-James Breton Stripe Shirts Three Ways

One of most ideal pieces of fall transition clothing is the Saint-James Breton stripe shirt. These long sleeve t-shirts, traditionally striped in blue-and-white, red-and-white, or black-and-white, provide excellent opportunity for layering and are offered in differing thicknesses. I think the common misconception is that these are traditionally women’s shirts, but the proud history of this company includes traditional fishermen’s sweaters from the 1700s and inclusion as part of the official uniform of the French Navy. This rich history has earned the shirts and sweaters the nickname “sailor stripes”.
