Brooks Brothers Striped Cotton Sweater

Does anyone else feel like things just shifted into high gear right after Thanksgiving? I swear, things dragged from Halloween until turkey day, but now we’re cruising. We’ve already bought and set up our tree. I’m hanging the lights this week. I even think we have most of our shopping done (for the kids at least). Regardless, we’re smack dab in the middle of sweater weather, and I’ve been running around a lot popping in and out fo the car on errands and outings. I usually wear wool sweaters when it gets cold, but this cotton sweater from Brooks Brothers has been a nice change of pace. Wool is fantastic for cold weather, but heavy cotton like this sweater, when layered, can be just as warm. I’ve been wearing this one with a dress shirt and an undershirt. Lately I’ve also been struggling with whether I’m an undershirt guy or not, but I’ll save that for another blog post. However, with this outfit, and while wearing most cotton sweaters during fall and winter, the extra warmth an undershirt provides outweighs both the…

Holiday Dinner Outfit Inspiration

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! We did, but I think I could have found a little more room for some food in my left leg. My brother-in-law made this amazing smoked turkey that I couldn’t get enough of! But after all the cookies, potatoes, stuffing, and everything else I’m ready to get back into my gym and healthy eating routines. Today I thought I would share what I wore for Thanksgiving dinner. It might not help you with Thanksgiving dinner this year, but I think this can be worm all season long. So, hopefully you can find some holiday dinner outfit inspiration in this post. I think the best way to dress up your holiday dinner outfit is to keep it classic. Christmas dinner is not the time to experiment. Of course the level of “dressiness” depends on your facility traditions. Sometimes corduroys, a tattersall shirt, and pair of country brogues is the perfect holiday dinner outfit. Perhaps your family tradition is to keep things completely casual. If that’s the case, a pair of dark jeans, oxford shirt, a chunky sweater and pair of boots is perfect. In…

24 Sweaters for Men This Fall

Finally fall has returned to the Pennsylvania! Time to break out those sweaters and jumpers, men! I love sweater weather. Give me a pair of jeans, some brogues, an OCBD, and a V-neck sweater, and I’m a happy man. I think what I love about sweaters and sweater weather so much is how much easier it makes layering an outfit. The trouble with buying sweaters for men is making sure you have a variety of materials and thicknesses. There was a point in my life where I had sworn off cardigans, turtlenecks and v-neck jumpers solely relying on the basic wool, crewneck sweater to get by. I still love my crewnecks, but i reserve them for cozy days when I am looking to remain casual and comfortable. I don’t normally wear button up shirts under a crewneck; it looks too bulky at the neck. So I keep it simple with an undershirt. Merino v-necks (and cashmere ones when I can find good deals) are my go-to with collared shirts. I think the V created by the combination of the sweater and shirt collars creates a nice narrowing feature on my face and…

Men’s Fall Style Essentials for 2017

If the weather ever starts acting like fall around here, I can actually break out some of my fall clothes like my duck boots and waxed cotton jacket. I mean, it’s felt like summer all week here with temperatures in the 80s. That’s very strange for Philadelphia this time of year. But the weather is eventually going to change, so I thought it was the perfect time to run down my list of men’s fall style essentials. I think what I love most about fall fashion is the functionality. Winter is cold, summer is hot, spring is wet. But fall? Fall can be all three. We need clothes that can face all three and adapt as the day changes. Consequently, this means waterproof outer layers, breathable layering pieces, tough footwear, and a few accessories to pull it all together. I also am really into the versatility of fall clothes. Want to wear jeans and a tweed jacket? Cool. How about some corduroy trousers and a denim jacket? Perfect. Mixing and matching is most easily done during autumn. Try rocking a blazer with a pair of shorts, and you might get a few looks. But…

Kingsman Style for Less

I am very excited to see the new Kingsman movie which premiered last week. If you haven’t seen Kingsman: The Secret Service yet, definitely go check it out. I thought it was a great modern take on the over-the-top 1960s British spy flicks. One of the things that makes Kingsman special is the clothes. The clothes are truly amazing in the film, and the Kingsman style continues in Kingsman: The Golden Circle. In fact, the wardrobes are so nice, the creators of the movie launched a clothing line at the same time using the actual clothes used in the film. The only trouble for me is that the clothes are a bit out of my price range. A Kingsman suit and a pair of brogues will set you back between $2,000 and $3,000!

Saint-James Breton Stripe Shirts Three Ways

One of most ideal pieces of fall transition clothing is the Saint-James Breton stripe shirt. These long sleeve t-shirts, traditionally striped in blue-and-white, red-and-white, or black-and-white, provide excellent opportunity for layering and are offered in differing thicknesses. I think the common misconception is that these are traditionally women’s shirts, but the proud history of this company includes traditional fishermen’s sweaters from the 1700s and inclusion as part of the official uniform of the French Navy. This rich history has earned the shirts and sweaters the nickname “sailor stripes”.
