Why a Gentleman Swears

I used to have a rowing coach who loved admonishing my teammates and me whenever he heard us cursing with, “Profanity is the crutch of the ignorant man.” I used to take umbrage with this because then, and even now, I think swearing has its place in certain instances. I’ve written before on my thoughts about gentlemen, and today I want to take another dip in that pool…

My New Year’s Resolutions for 2017

Normally I’m not a big fan of New Year’s Resolutions. I believe if you want to make a change, it’s better to simply start than to pick some arbitrary date and wait for it to arrive. However, I can appreciate the concept of having some sort of delineation between old behaviors and new. This year, though, I got myself into a pretty lazy rut over the holidays…

What Next?

Since Tuesday’s election, I’ve really been struggling to justify this blog. How can I write about things that seem so trivial like men’s style and grooming when there are much more serious issues at play in our world? Let’s face it, what I write about is rather superficial. I’ve spent the last few days wondering if it’s even worth the time. I’ve questioned whether I should write about more important things. It just didn’t seem important. However, her post really helped me to figure out what I want to do going forward. If this is election has…

Why I’m with Her

*There’s an old adage professing that one should never discuss politics or religion. I disagree. I think the only way we can work through our differences as a country, or as a planet for that matter, is to have those difficult discussions. And those discussions must be had with goals of empathy and understanding. They should not be attempts at conversion of “the other side”. We are all Americans, we are all human. That being said, I welcome discussion here, but it must be civilized and constructive. Anything else will not be tolerated.* Let’s get one thing out of the way. I don’t like Hillary Clinton. I never have. I didn’t like her when she was the First Lady in the 1990s. I thought she was trying to enact policy without having been elected. Michelle Obama, Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan all walked that line perfectly. They developed programs, became spokespeople, and cared for our country. But Clinton reached too far. This is not an anti-woman opinion I have either. I would expect any First Husband to conduct himself the same way too. I think the issues surrounding Whitewater, Benghazi, and her personal email server have…
