Brooks Brothers Striped Cotton Sweater

Does anyone else feel like things just shifted into high gear right after Thanksgiving? I swear, things dragged from Halloween until turkey day, but now we’re cruising. We’ve already bought and set up our tree. I’m hanging the lights this week. I even think we have most of our shopping done (for the kids at least). Regardless, we’re smack dab in the middle of sweater weather, and I’ve been running around a lot popping in and out fo the car on errands and outings. I usually wear wool sweaters when it gets cold, but this cotton sweater from Brooks Brothers has been a nice change of pace. Wool is fantastic for cold weather, but heavy cotton like this sweater, when layered, can be just as warm. I’ve been wearing this one with a dress shirt and an undershirt. Lately I’ve also been struggling with whether I’m an undershirt guy or not, but I’ll save that for another blog post. However, with this outfit, and while wearing most cotton sweaters during fall and winter, the extra warmth an undershirt provides outweighs both the…

Holiday Dinner Outfit Inspiration

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! We did, but I think I could have found a little more room for some food in my left leg. My brother-in-law made this amazing smoked turkey that I couldn’t get enough of! But after all the cookies, potatoes, stuffing, and everything else I’m ready to get back into my gym and healthy eating routines. Today I thought I would share what I wore for Thanksgiving dinner. It might not help you with Thanksgiving dinner this year, but I think this can be worm all season long. So, hopefully you can find some holiday dinner outfit inspiration in this post. I think the best way to dress up your holiday dinner outfit is to keep it classic. Christmas dinner is not the time to experiment. Of course the level of “dressiness” depends on your facility traditions. Sometimes corduroys, a tattersall shirt, and pair of country brogues is the perfect holiday dinner outfit. Perhaps your family tradition is to keep things completely casual. If that’s the case, a pair of dark jeans, oxford shirt, a chunky sweater and pair of boots is perfect. In…

Shawl Collar Sweater

Oh man it was pretty chilly today! This shawl collar sweater kept me warm though. Layered with one of my favorite OCBDs underneath, I had to keep my self cooled off when I went back inside. I spent most of the day running errands, and the freedom to pop in and out of the car without worrying about grabbing a jacket, putting it on, taking it off, etc. was a treat. This sweater and shirt combination was enough to keep me toasty during my journeys with temps in the mid 40s. A shawl collar is also a fantastic way to add a little extra flair to a cold weather outfit without hunting around for scarf or bundling up into too many layers. I know there’s a huge, currently running trend right now focusing on layering for fall. In fact I’m even a proponent of it. But sometimes I just want to throw on a pair of jeans and a sweater and get on with my day. A shawl collar sweater like this adds some uniqueness without weighing you down too much. There’s a cardigan-like quality that adds a little extra sophistication too. If…

Outfit of the Day November 13, 2017

So I’m going to try something new. It seem like people would appreciate it I posted the details of my Instagram Outfits of the Day and Shaves of the Day directly on the blog. I think this sounds like a great idea, and I’m going to do it as much as I can. I think the best way to do this is to run a blog post the next morning following the Instagram post. If you can’t wait for the next day’s post, you can always shop the feed directly through Instagram or on the website right here. Keep in mind too, that while Movember is running, I obviously won’t be posting any Shave of the Day pictures. The beard is coming in nicely, and I kind of like it. I do plan on getting back to the shaving posts and reviews, but not for a few more weeks. I’d also love to get some feedback on how these posts are going. Feel free to drop me a line or drop a comment on the blog. Monday’s outfit was one built to beat the cold and…

OOTD: What I Wore for St. Patrick’s Day

I had a great St. Patrick’s Day post planned for last week that was completely thrown off by Stella. The kids were home for days on end, and I just wasn’t able to get it pulled together. I probably should have. I’m still struggling with getting out as many posts as I’d like. But I guess this is all part of the writing process. What I can do is take a look at what I wore on St. Patrick’s Day and share that with you…

Outfit of the Day: August 29, 2016

Well, summer is almost over. One of the things I love most about summer is that I think coworkers, friends, even people in general are a little more forgiving of casual or experimental dress. No one seems to care as much. They’re just trying to relax too! Even summer weddings are bit more relaxed (i.e. khaki suits, seersucker, etc.) Well, this week I’m definitely stepping out of my fashion comfort zone. But I figure, with one week left before Labor Day, now is my last chance to take a few risks. I’ve never been a sneakers with a suit kind of guy, but these New Balances are owning my life right now. Seriously. I might have to pick up a second pair because I’m afraid I’m going to wear through these. I do my best to not wear them two days in a row, but sometimes I can’t help myself. (While I’m on the subject, do you rotate your shoes? You should, especially leather shoes. Leather needs to breath. It needs to rest. I needs to dry from having your sweaty feet stuck in it all day. Remember, as much as we…
