Atto Primo Shaving Brush Review

Atto Primo reached out to me in the early fall to try and review their two shaving brushes. I had never heard of this company before, and, as always, I was thrilled to get to try something new. I have to also thank Atto Primo for their patience. They were one of several brands to submit their products for review prior to November, and they were completely understanding and supportive of my participation in No Shave November. I appreciate their willingness to wait for me. So, let’s get into what makes up an Atto Primo shaving brush. Atto Primo actually sent me two shaving brushes; their black horse hair brush and their gold boar brush. So first, I’ll break down the similar features then get into what I though of each brush individually. Both brushes are big. The loft for each is 64mm, which is pretty impressive holding a fair amount of water and lather. I have only ever reviewed one other brush with a bigger knot. The aluminum handles really shine on both of these brushes too. They have wonderful weight and balance, but aren’t too heavy. I also found the grip to…

Brooks Brothers Striped Cotton Sweater

Does anyone else feel like things just shifted into high gear right after Thanksgiving? I swear, things dragged from Halloween until turkey day, but now we’re cruising. We’ve already bought and set up our tree. I’m hanging the lights this week. I even think we have most of our shopping done (for the kids at least). Regardless, we’re smack dab in the middle of sweater weather, and I’ve been running around a lot popping in and out fo the car on errands and outings. I usually wear wool sweaters when it gets cold, but this cotton sweater from Brooks Brothers has been a nice change of pace. Wool is fantastic for cold weather, but heavy cotton like this sweater, when layered, can be just as warm. I’ve been wearing this one with a dress shirt and an undershirt. Lately I’ve also been struggling with whether I’m an undershirt guy or not, but I’ll save that for another blog post. However, with this outfit, and while wearing most cotton sweaters during fall and winter, the extra warmth an undershirt provides outweighs both the…

Five Tips for a Better Shave

So here we are, December 1st. Movember / No Shave November has come to a close, and you’re ready to get back to your normal shaving life. I think we all think we look like Captain America in that new Avengers trailer (I know I wish I did), but we probably look a little closer to Ron Burgundy after losing his job. So it’s time to shave those beards and mustaches off.

Prince Harry’s Blue Engagement Suit – The Look for Less

I’m not Royal Wedding crazy, but I am a bit of a admitted Anglophile. I’m a big fan of the things at which Brits are known to be great. Iconic television series, both comedic and dramatic, legendary English shoes, incredible grooming products, and a flawless sense of traditional tailoring. Prince Harry’s blue engagement suit Monday did more than enough to drive this final point home. Before I get into my recommendations on more affordable alternatives to the prince’s suit, I want to take a moment to walk through what I like so much about it. I love the color of this suit. Yes, I highly recommend that a navy suit should be your first suit purchase, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t Prince Harry’s first suit. Blue is also a little flashier for a special occasion, which this obviously is. So I suggest keeping the navy in your closet during a day like your engagement. The prince also lets his suit do most of the work by keeping the other elements simple. He subtly paired it with a crisp white shirt, a classic navy tie, and…

Holiday Dinner Outfit Inspiration

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! We did, but I think I could have found a little more room for some food in my left leg. My brother-in-law made this amazing smoked turkey that I couldn’t get enough of! But after all the cookies, potatoes, stuffing, and everything else I’m ready to get back into my gym and healthy eating routines. Today I thought I would share what I wore for Thanksgiving dinner. It might not help you with Thanksgiving dinner this year, but I think this can be worm all season long. So, hopefully you can find some holiday dinner outfit inspiration in this post. I think the best way to dress up your holiday dinner outfit is to keep it classic. Christmas dinner is not the time to experiment. Of course the level of “dressiness” depends on your facility traditions. Sometimes corduroys, a tattersall shirt, and pair of country brogues is the perfect holiday dinner outfit. Perhaps your family tradition is to keep things completely casual. If that’s the case, a pair of dark jeans, oxford shirt, a chunky sweater and pair of boots is perfect. In…

Shawl Collar Sweater

Oh man it was pretty chilly today! This shawl collar sweater kept me warm though. Layered with one of my favorite OCBDs underneath, I had to keep my self cooled off when I went back inside. I spent most of the day running errands, and the freedom to pop in and out of the car without worrying about grabbing a jacket, putting it on, taking it off, etc. was a treat. This sweater and shirt combination was enough to keep me toasty during my journeys with temps in the mid 40s. A shawl collar is also a fantastic way to add a little extra flair to a cold weather outfit without hunting around for scarf or bundling up into too many layers. I know there’s a huge, currently running trend right now focusing on layering for fall. In fact I’m even a proponent of it. But sometimes I just want to throw on a pair of jeans and a sweater and get on with my day. A shawl collar sweater like this adds some uniqueness without weighing you down too much. There’s a cardigan-like quality that adds a little extra sophistication too. If…

Outfit of the Day November 13, 2017

So I’m going to try something new. It seem like people would appreciate it I posted the details of my Instagram Outfits of the Day and Shaves of the Day directly on the blog. I think this sounds like a great idea, and I’m going to do it as much as I can. I think the best way to do this is to run a blog post the next morning following the Instagram post. If you can’t wait for the next day’s post, you can always shop the feed directly through Instagram or on the website right here. Keep in mind too, that while Movember is running, I obviously won’t be posting any Shave of the Day pictures. The beard is coming in nicely, and I kind of like it. I do plan on getting back to the shaving posts and reviews, but not for a few more weeks. I’d also love to get some feedback on how these posts are going. Feel free to drop me a line or drop a comment on the blog. Monday’s outfit was one built to beat the cold and…
